The virtual guitar amps and Unison preamps work very nicely with the low-latency Console app. Remember that UAD plugs run off the interface's onboard power, and so do not drain your CPU, so there is a slight gain in your overall plug-in capability during heavy mixes. I really dig UAD's pultec, their EMT 140 plate reverb is great, and IMHO Ocean Way does something no "reverb" can do. You get a demo of every one of them so you can try it and see if it is "worth it" to you or not. But if you actually feel one particular one sounds better, and you use a lot of them, maybe that's a good place to put your money. Of course everybody and his brother makes an 1176 plugin. Their 1176 is considered very very good by people who have compared a lot of them. practice on the low-cost and free stuff first. if you don't know what a threshold is on a compressor, or what a q is on an equalizer (and why these things matter), don't go on a spending spree. Your primary goal right now is *learning*. Google search "free vst effects" and you will see lots of stuff. Kvr audio has a "zillion" free vst effects: So go into this gradually rather than spending all your money before you know what you are doing. the renaissance compressor is also popular, and that is on sale for $24.50. those have eq and compression and gating in one plugin, so they are kind of an education in a box. it might not be a bad idea to pick up the ssl e-channel or g-channel for $29.50 (you can demo both, and buy the one you like more). if you are new at this, i wouldn't drop $300-800 on plugins until you know your way around. You might be best off playing around with free and low cost solutions for a while until your skills/preferences get refined (maybe two months or so). Izotope sometimes (rarely) runs super sales. If you are doing popular music, you will probabably want a mixture of colored effects and neutral effects. You need high quality equalization, compression, limiting, de-essing.
